Job Summary
As the Truck Maintenance Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all workshop operations to ensure maximum truck fleet reliability, safety, and vehicle availability. You will lead maintenance teams, manage corrective and preventive repairs, control spare parts inventories, and oversee maintenance budgets. Your primary objective is to minimize vehicle downtime, optimize operating costs, and maintain strict adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Operations & Fleet Management
• Lead, manage, and oversee all workshop operations to drive efficient maintenance and repair workflows.
• Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive and corrective maintenance programs for the entire fleet.
• Ensure the timely diagnosis, repair, and servicing of heavy-duty trucks and related equipment to maximize vehicle availability.
• Monitor fleet performance, analyze historical maintenance records, and identify recurring mechanical faults to improve reliability.
• Partner with the Distribution and Fleet Operations teams to coordinate maintenance windows that protect delivery schedules and truck utilization.
Budgeting & Cost Control
• Prepare, manage, and control maintenance budgets, ensuring cost-effective allocation of labor, spare parts, and external services.
• Monitor spare parts inventory levels, oversee procurement processes, and ensure critical components are always available.
• Develop and manage a comprehensive tyre lifecycle and fuel-efficiency monitoring program to lower overall operating costs.
• Drive asset lifecycle costing and total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis to formulate fleet renewal and replacement recommendations.
Compliance, Safety & Vendor Management
• Enforce stringent workshop Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards—including PPE utilization, hazard reporting, and incident investigations—in alignment with company policies and regulatory bodies (e.g., FRSC, VIO).
• Schedule and oversee routine vehicle inspections, servicing, and annual statutory certification requirements for trucks and trailers.
• Manage relationships and service-level agreements (SLAs) with external repair vendors, contractors, and dealerships.
• Optimize cost recovery by collaborating with manufacturers and dealerships on warranty claims, recalls, and technical bulletins.
Systems & Leadership
• Deploy and manage a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or fleet telematics platform to track service histories, diagnostics, and KPIs.
• Coordinate roadside breakdown responses and emergency vehicle recovery activities to ensure swift resolution with minimal operational disruption.
• Lead root-cause investigations into major breakdowns and accidents, executing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Supervise, train, and mentor workshop personnel to drive technical competence, high performance, and absolute safety compliance.
Education & Work Experience Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Transportation Management, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 10 years of cognate working experience in fleet maintenance, heavy-duty truck maintenance, or industrial workshop management.
• Proven track record of managing large commercial vehicle fleets; experience within a logistics, transportation, or fast-paced distribution environment is highly preferred.
• Relevant professional certifications (e.g., ASE, NEBOSH, OEM-specific technical credentials) are an added advantage.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of CMMS platforms and fleet telematics systems (e.g., Samsara, Fleetio, or similar).

• Fleet/Truck Availability Rate: Target 95\%
• Mean Time to Repair (MTTR): Minimized duration for breakdowns and unscheduled repairs
• Preventive Maintenance (PM) Compliance Rate: Adherence to scheduled service intervals
• Maintenance Cost: Cost per kilometer and cost per truck relative to the approved budget
• Downtime Metrics: Reduction in unscheduled downtime and breakdown frequency
• Inventory Accuracy: High spare parts turnaround time and inventory precision
• Safety Record: Workshop Health & Safety Incident Rate (Target: Zero lost-time incidents)
• Budget Variance: Effective control against financial forecasts
Work Environment
Primary operations are based in a hands-on workshop environment, with necessary visits to ports and other operational field units as required.
